Thracian sanctuaries
The Dolmen near the village of Plevun is a megalithic burial ground (V-I century BC), declared an archeological monument of culture of national importance. The most recently discovered megalithic Thracian monument and one of the most rarely seen as an architectural type, combining the archaic traditions of the early Iron Age with the new achievements of Hellenism (it has a modern plan characteristic of the monumental tombs of the 5th-3rd centuries BC. . no.).
Another open megalithic burial facility in the municipality of Ivaylovgrad is the dolmen near the village of Zhelezino (end of the 2nd millennium BC). It is a single-chamber, without an anteroom and a dromos, with an east-west orientation of the burial chamber. The Dolmen was built as a burial ground for the local Thracian aristocracy. The crepe (the stone ring around the dolmen) limits the sacred space around the tomb from the surrounding world.
The power of tradition and the memory that has preserved the facility as a sacred site for more than 3,000 years is unique, during which time it was worshiped by people of different religions.
